Yes, some of them are worth more than melt.
For example, a nicer condition version of the 1723 ducat sold for 2,800 euros at auction:

The coin at bottom center/left "VICTORIA CONOB" is byzantine empire. It's probably worth $600 or so, but hard to say since I can't see the other side.


I believe the 1893 sovereign to its right is fairly common - worth around bullion value.
